Week 5 REFLECTION

Part 1: About Learning Through Reading:

After reading the magazine (TIME) and the book (Beyond Words), the two “big ideas” stand out the most to me about animals are animal intelligences and animal self-recognition. Many species of animals are much more intelligent than I thought before. Before I took this class and read those articles, I thought that animals’ intelligence is not high. However, this class taught me a lot of knowledge about animals’ intelligence. In addition, I did not know some of the animals have self-recognition before because I do not think that my pet knows the dog inside the mirror is herself. I learned that there are still have many issues about the relationship between human and animals from Twitter. For example, human hunt animals for their benefit, human use animals for tests.

Part 2: About Becoming a Better Reader/Writer/Communicator:

There are two things that I learned from this class are very important for me. One is how to write the research. Almost one year ago, I took writing 39C online class once time, but I did not pass that class because I did not know how to write a research paper. In this class, professor taught us step by step. Reading the articles about research, finding the researchers from the articles, knowing what the research talking about, and deciding what our research’s topic. The second thing is how to find professional research materials. I knew that I can search key words from UCI Library website in order to find the research journals. Moreover, I am able to find the earliest or recent research from UCI Library.
